Joint Chiefs: 'North Korea Fires Multiple Ballistic Missiles into East Sea'

North Korea has fired multiple short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed that the missiles were launched from the Sinpo area in South Hamgyong Province, home to a key submarine base. This marks the seventh ballistic missile launch by North Korea this year.

Japan's Ministry of Defense announced that the missiles landed outside Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and that no damage has been reported.

Emergency Security Meetings Convened Immediately

The South Korean government convened an emergency meeting of the National Security Council immediately after the launch to review response measures. The presidential office also held an urgent security situation review meeting. Following the meetings, the government issued a statement calling North Korea's launch 'a clear act of provocation that threatens peace on the Korean Peninsula and in the international community,' and strongly urged Pyongyang to 'immediately cease all provocations.'

Military authorities are maintaining close coordination with the United States and monitoring the situation for any additional launches.
