DOJ Issues Sweeping Memo Claiming Presidential Records Are Private Property

Reports indicate the structure appears designed primarily to attract private investment for the president's personal foundation, with no confirmed plans to collaborate with NARA on an official archive. While the building may house a gold Trump statue, whether it will serve as a functional archive for declassification requests remains unclear.

The Freedom of the Press Foundation has filed over a dozen FOIA requests for key records from Trump's first term, including: the Senate's 2014 CIA torture report; internal records on the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack and Electoral College certification; documents on the June 1, 2020 Lafayette Square protest dispersal; communications on both impeachment proceedings; and memoranda of conversation with foreign leaders.
