17 Argentine Provinces Seek Investment in Chile

Ministers of development from 17 Argentine provinces will attend a meeting in Santiago, Chile on November 18-19 to secure funding for infrastructure and production development projects.

The event, co-hosted by the Federal Investment Council (CFI) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), will bring together officials from major international financial institutions including the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), and Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES).

The meeting, titled "Forum of Ministers of Production Development - Peer-to-Peer Exchange on Subnational Production Development Policies and Finance," will take place at ECLAC headquarters.

Addressing Regional Disparities as a Key Challenge

CFI has emphasized that this meeting represents a crucial opportunity to address economic disparities between regions in Argentina. Historically, Argentina has experienced deepening imbalances in production systems between the metropolitan area and provincial regions.

The organizing committee stated that "the spatial dynamics of production systems have further widened regional gaps," adding that "coordination of production development, technology, and financial policies between national and provincial governments is necessary."

This forum is part of the "Development Roadmap" established by CFI in collaboration with provincial governors. The plan aims for an integrated strategy encompassing innovation, energy, infrastructure, education, and finance.

Day One: Sharing Federal Development Strategies

The first day on Monday, November 18, will focus on federal development strategies. Starting from an international perspective, the agenda will address challenges from Argentina's federal viewpoint and exchange regional production policy cases from Chile, Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia.

The opening panel will include Ignacio Lamothe, CFI Secretary General; José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, ECLAC Executive Secretary; Barbara Scholz, representative of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ); and Paola Pabón, Governor of Pichincha Province, Ecuador.

Throughout the day, various panels and roundtables will feature policymakers, institutional representatives, and organizational stakeholders sharing their experiences.

Day Two: Development Finance Strategy Discussions

Tuesday, November 19, will center on development finance. The agenda includes reviewing cases from IDB, CAF, and Brazil's BNDES, followed by discussions on establishing an Argentine National Development Bank.

CFI plans to present and discuss its own financial strategies alongside provincial teams.

A Litmus Test for Balanced Regional Development

This meeting is expected to serve as more than just a funding opportunity; it will be a platform for learning how Latin American countries are addressing regional imbalance issues.

With direct participation from international financial institutions, concrete project financing solutions are anticipated. Argentine provinces plan to present investment opportunities in logistics, infrastructure, and technological innovation sectors.
