Luxembourg's New Grand Duke Holds First Official Meetings

Luxembourg's new head of state, Grand Duke Guillaume, has begun his official duties following a three-day accession ceremony. On Monday, October 6, Grand Duke Guillaume received Chamber of Deputies President Claude Wiseler in the morning and Prime Minister Luc Frieden in the afternoon.

As is customary, the meetings with the Grand Duke were held in private, and President Wiseler did not disclose specific details of the discussions. However, he noted that it was "a very comfortable and direct conversation" and that "the Grand Duke showed deep interest in parliamentary activities." A meeting with State Council President Marc Thewes is scheduled for Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in motorsports, George Russell claimed victory at the F1 Singapore Grand Prix, securing Mercedes' first win of the 2025 season. Russell crossed the finish line first with a flawless performance at the Marina Bay Street Circuit night race, overtaking his competitors.

The Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL) operated a specially designed train to commemorate the Grand Duke's accession. Running during the accession ceremonies on October 3-4, the train featured railway switch imagery on its exterior, symbolizing the "change of reign."

CFL management stated, "As railways play a central economic and social role in Luxembourg, we wanted to commemorate this historic moment together."
