Fairfax County Athletes' Winter Report Card
As the fall season of college sports wraps up, athletes from Fairfax County are receiving well-deserved recognition. Award announcements and winter season rosters have featured numerous names from this region.
Steven Wagoner Named President of National Premier Soccer League
Steven Wagoner, who holds degrees from the College of William & Mary and George Mason University, has been appointed as the new president of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).
The NPSL is one of the grassroots leagues in American men's soccer, and Wagoner has made expanding the league's visibility his top priority. He operates MLDA (Major League Development Association), a sports management company dedicated to advancing both men's and women's soccer in the United States. Wagoner, who is also the founder of private equity firm America Investment Management, has served in various roles on the NPSL board over the past decade.
McKenna Huff Selected in Women's Professional Baseball Draft
McKenna Huff, a graduate of Fairfax's Robinson Secondary School, was selected by the New York team with the 59th overall pick in the third round of the inaugural Women's Professional Baseball League draft.
Currently playing on the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team, Huff will pursue professional baseball as an infielder. She was the first female player to compete on Robinson's baseball team during high school, where she became accustomed to competing alongside male players.
At Mary Washington, Huff averages 12 minutes per game, scoring 2.5 points with a 31% field goal percentage—improvements across the board from her freshman year.
Carson Gallant Named to All-Conference Second Team in College Football
Shenandoah University posted a strong 8-3 record this season, marking two consecutive years of success. Carson Gallant, a Lake Braddock Secondary School graduate, earned the honor of being selected to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) second team.
The sophomore served as the team's primary placekicker, converting 7 of 9 field goal attempts (with a long of 33 yards). He delivered a clutch performance by making the game-winning field goal in the match that secured the team's playoff berth.
Gallant converted 40 of 44 extra point attempts and recorded two tackles on kickoff coverage. In one game, he even recovered his own onside kick in a memorable play.
Lindsay Costigan and Mia Fitzgerald Reunite at Muhlenberg
Lindsay Costigan (McLean High School) and Mia Fitzgerald (Flint Hill School), who competed as rivals in high school, have joined forces at Muhlenberg College.
Both players started all 11 games this season, leading their team to a 6-5 record. Combined, Costigan and Fitzgerald averaged over 10 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, establishing themselves as core contributors to the team.
