Northern Italian City's Cultural Week
Bologna will host a diverse array of cultural events over five days from September 15 to 19. The capital of Italy's Emilia-Romagna region is home to Europe's oldest university and has traditionally been a hub for vibrant arts and cultural activities.
The MicroBo beer festival, now in its 11th edition, will take place from September 19 to 21 at Villa Cassarini Park. Italian craft breweries will showcase their products at this event held in the Porta Saragozza area, in a location known as the 'Engineering School Park.'
Classical Music Meets Cinema
On September 16 at 8:30 PM, Giuseppe Mengoli will conduct the Bologna Teatro Comunale Orchestra at the Manzoni Auditorium. This young conductor, born in 1993, won first prize at the Mahler Competition with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in 2023.
The program features Mahler's Symphony No. 1 'Titan' and Brahms' Double Concerto for Violin and Cello, with violinist Marco Rizzi and cellist Enrico Bronzi as soloists.
Crossing Boundaries Between Poetry and Music
At 8 PM on the same day, Targhe Officina Roversi 2025 will begin at Lucio Dalla Square. This free concert, part of the DiMondi Festival, features 13 artists participating.
They were selected from hundreds of applications and will present their original works in song, poetry, and songwriting categories. Special guests include Italian music scene veterans Angela Baraldi, Roberta Giallo, and Marinella Manicardi.
Targhe Officina Roversi is not a competitive award but rather cultural recognition given to works that offer fresh interpretations of contemporary poetry and musical language. The second performance is scheduled for September 26 at the same venue, with the final event taking place on November 29 at the Tea Theater.
1960s Sounds and Classic Films
On September 15 at 9 PM, kicking off the week, the band Jonas will perform a free concert at Montagnola Republic. This group reinterprets music from the 1960s and 70s, with no admission fee.
On the same day, the 'Barefoot on the Grass' outdoor film festival will take place at Montagnola Park. The screening features George Roy Hill's 1973 film 'The Sting,' starting at 9 PM.
Additionally, the Festa dell'Unità (Unity Day Festival) will continue at Cevenini Park through September 21, providing Bologna residents and tourists with diverse cultural options.
