Twenty-two migrants died while crossing the Mediterranean Sea from Africa to Greece on a rubber boat, AFP reported on the 28th.
Dangers of Mediterranean Migration Route
The Mediterranean is one of the main migration routes for African and Middle Eastern refugees heading to Europe, with continuous loss of life due to inadequate vessels and rough seas. Smugglers are known to force dangerous voyages by overloading rubber boats with migrants.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), thousands lose their lives crossing the Mediterranean annually, and this incident is expected to be recorded as one of this year's Mediterranean migration tragedies.
