People Power Party Strongly Criticizes President Lee's Cheonan Remarks
The People Power Party strongly criticized President Lee Jae-myung's remarks related to the Cheonan ship incident on the 28th. The party claimed that President Lee's comments, which appeared to demand an apology from North Korea to the families of Cheonan victims, "stabbed them and humiliated them."
In a statement released on this day, the People Power Party criticized, "In a situation where he should have clearly and firmly demanded an apology from North Korea for the Cheonan sinking as the president of the Republic of Korea, he instead made remarks that hurt the bereaved families."
Cheonan Sinking Controversy Reignited
The Cheonan sinking occurred on March 26, 2010, in waters near Baengnyeong Island, resulting in the deaths of 46 servicemen. The government joint investigation team concluded it was a North Korean torpedo attack, though some have raised the possibility of other causes.
The People Power Party emphasized, "President Lee failed to consider the pain of the Cheonan families and made inappropriate remarks," adding "We urge him to take a responsible attitude as president."
