Summary
  • Ciudad Juárez Central Park has been allocated 47.4 billion pesos in the 2026 budget, representing a 28% increase.
  • The 30-hectare Central Park recorded a significant increase for the second consecutive year, following a 95% increase last year.
  • While specific project details remain undisclosed, this is evaluated as a signal of expanded investment in urban public facilities.

Second Consecutive Year of Significant Budget Increase

Central Park (Parque Central) in Ciudad Juárez, a northern Mexican border city, has secured an allocation of 47.48258 billion pesos (approximately 3.3 billion USD) in the 2026 budget, confirming a 27.89% increase from the previous year.

This represents a net increase of 1.035 billion pesos (approximately 720 million USD), making it the third-highest growth rate among institutions under Chihuahua State. It ranks third after the Commission for Victims of Violence (Coesvi) with a 70% increase and the State Pedagogical University (Upnech) with a 38% increase.

Last year, Central Park's budget also saw a dramatic 95% surge, nearly doubling in size. At that time, it had the highest growth rate except for the Chihuahua City public transportation agency, which received the largest increase to introduce over 30 new buses.

30-Hectare Urban Landmark

Central Park is Ciudad Juárez's flagship public facility, spanning over 30 hectares and featuring green spaces, sports facilities, a lake, bicycle paths, and children's playgrounds. It operates as an independent agency under the Secretariat of Human Development and Common Good (Secretaría de Desarrollo Humano y Bien Común).

In recent years, alongside green space maintenance, walkway improvements, and rainwater drainage system construction, various sports facilities have been added, including baseball fields, basketball courts, futsal courts, frontón (wall ball) courts, and beach volleyball courts.

However, whether the 2026 budget increase is intended for specific infrastructure projects or large-scale modernization works has not yet been officially announced.

Local Government's Signal for Public Facility Investment

Ciudad Juárez, one of Mexico's largest northern industrial cities bordering El Paso, Texas, has a population of over 1.5 million. Sustained investment in public facilities like Central Park is interpreted as the local government's commitment to urban infrastructure expansion and improving residents' quality of life.

Chihuahua State has also implemented substantial increases in education, welfare, and transportation sectors in its 2026 budget, emphasizing social infrastructure enhancement.
