Costa Rica's largest broadcaster Teletica unveiled PIA (an artificial intelligence-based virtual journalist) on January 26. PIA appears on screen as a 3D female avatar, tasked with automating large-scale data processing and election-related breaking news production. Teletica described it as "the first project of its kind in Costa Rican TV history" and announced plans to deploy PIA in coverage of the general election scheduled for February 1.

PIA's debut occurred on the political discussion program "Café Política." The broadcaster explained it as "a new way of delivering news that integrates cutting-edge technology while maintaining truthfulness, ethics, and journalistic rigor."
