Tears bursting out on the world tour finale stage
On March 29, NCT DREAM completed the final performance of its fourth world tour, 'THE DREAM SHOW 4'. On this day, after successfully completing the 6-day performance, an unexpected scene unfolded on stage. Several members, including those who are usually reserved in expressing their emotions, shed tears at the last moment of the performance.
Voices of concern quickly spread among fans who watched this. Speculation was raised that it was not just tears of emotion, but some news related to the group's future.
What is the ‘10-year jinx’ of SM idols?
Behind fans' concerns is the so-called '10-year jinx' that has been repeated among SM Entertainment idols. According to the industry, SM idols often extend their contracts for 3 years after the initial 7-year contract, for a total of 10 years. NCT DREAM, which debuted in 2016, is approaching its 10th anniversary this year, and attention is focused on whether the contract will be renewed.
In addition, the fact that some members were approaching military enlistment also increased fans' anxiety. As the time when a gap in the group's activities becomes inevitable approaches, various interpretations of the meaning of tears have emerged.
Jaemin “We’ll meet again, don’t worry”
Immediately after the performance, member Jaemin directly responded to fans' concerns through a live broadcast on Weverse. In a broadcast he made in the car on his way home, he comforted his fans by saying, "Why are you crying when you finished the performance perfectly for 6 days?"
Jaemin explained the reason for the tears, saying, “When one person starts crying, we all cry together because of our bond.” He promised, "We will meet again. Don't worry, I will protect you."
Fans, even though they are relieved, they do not let down their guard
After Jaemin's explanation, there was a response of relief among fans. However, the realistic tasks of contract renewal and military enlistment that a 10-year-old idol group must face have not disappeared. Fans say they will keep an eye on the situation until the group makes an official announcement.
NCT DREAM has shown steady growth since its debut in 2016 and has established itself as one of SM Entertainment's main groups. Now that they have successfully completed their fourth world tour, attention is focused on their future activities.
