Adult LEGO Time at the Museum
The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (MAC) in Spokane, Washington is hosting a special LEGO workshop designed for adults. This event, called 'Bricks and Brews,' offers a unique experience where participants can create LEGO works while enjoying beer or wine.
Planned as part of the ongoing exhibition 'Brick by Brick: We Built This City,' this workshop is open only to adults aged 21 and over. The January session has already sold out, and tickets are currently on sale for the February 25 event, running from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
Meeting Spokane's Icons in LEGO Form
The workshop takes place in the museum's Create Space and is led by local educators and LEGO enthusiasts Trevor and Amanda Hibbard. Participants will build miniature LEGO versions of Spokane's beloved Garbage Goat sculpture to take home.
Attendees can also try their hand at printmaking in the Create Space and have the opportunity to view the 'Brick by Brick' exhibition during hours not normally open to the public. This exhibition features seven iconic Spokane buildings meticulously recreated in miniature by local LEGO artists.
The display includes the Cathedral of St. John, Spokesman-Review Tower, the historic Davenport Hotel, and the Campbell House. Particularly notable is a detailed landscape piece featuring the Monroe Street Bridge, Spokane River Falls, and the Washington Water Power building.
When LEGO Becomes Art
LEGO has evolved beyond a simple toy to become a genre of contemporary art. Recreating architecture with LEGO bricks is an artistic endeavor that combines precise observation, spatial awareness, and creativity.
The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture's exhibition and workshop shed new light on local architectural heritage through the familiar medium of LEGO. Visitors directly experience how LEGO blocks—childhood playthings—transform into artistic works that capture a city's history and culture.
Workshop admission is $20 for the general public and $15 for museum members. Additional sessions are scheduled for March 25 and April 29, following the February 25 event.
