Roblox has officially released an agentic AI feature for its creator tool, Roblox Studio. Called Planning Mode, the system takes a text prompt and generates a game design document, then implements and tests the result through a multi-step agent workflow. "Creators can just describe what they want and Planning Mode will break down every step to make it, take feedback to refine the details, and implement the plan," the company said.

What Sets This Apart From Existing AI Tools

The key differentiator Roblox emphasizes is the multi-step approach. Most AI development assistants today produce a one-shot output from a single prompt—what Roblox describes as "shooting in the dark" that often fails to capture a creator's true intent.

Planning Mode addresses this by analyzing the game's code and data model, asking clarifying questions, and producing a detailed, reviewable action plan before making any changes. Creators can edit and approve the plan at each stage. That plan functions as a mini game design document, guiding agents that execute tasks in parallel and verify their work against the original vision.

Automated QA: The Playtesting Agent Beta

Also announced was a playtesting agent beta that tests generated games against the original plan. The agent reads code, analyzes logs, and controls the player character as an automated QA tester. Roblox plans to integrate this loop into future planning cycles, creating what it calls a "self-correcting system that becomes more accurate over time." A procedural asset generation tool—enabling users to create game objects that auto-scale to fit the game world—is also on the near-term roadmap.

AI-assisted game development gained serious momentum alongside the generative AI boom of 2022–2023. Microsoft Copilot, Unity, and Unreal Engine each moved to embed AI assistants into their workflows, making AI tooling a baseline expectation rather than a premium feature.
