From Streaming Platform to Bookseller

Spotify has significantly expanded its audiobook service, introducing in-app physical book purchasing for users in the United States and United Kingdom. Just over two years after launch, the platform has grown its audiobook catalog nearly fivefold — and is now moving beyond listening into selling.

Buy a Physical Book Without Leaving the App

Through a partnership with Bookshop.org, an independent bookstore support platform, Spotify users in the US and UK on Android can now purchase physical books directly within the Spotify app. iOS users will gain access the following week. The feature bridges digital content discovery with offline purchasing, pushing Spotify well beyond its origins as a streaming service.

Page Match Expands to 30+ Languages

Page Match, which synchronizes a user's position between an audiobook and a physical or e-book edition, is expanding from English-only to more than 30 additional languages, including French, German, and Swedish. Internal data shows that users who engage with Page Match stream an average of 55% more audiobook hours per week than those who don't. Notably, 62% of Page Matched titles were books the user had never previously streamed.

Recaps and Charts Also Grow

Audiobook Recaps — short audio summaries tailored to a user's most recent listening point — are now available on Android, bringing the feature to both major mobile platforms. Germany is receiving Audiobook Charts for the first time, with weekly rankings across genres including sci-fi and fantasy, mystery and thriller, self-help, and kids and family. In the US and UK, a dedicated kids and family chart has been added to existing chart offerings.

Spotify Audiobooks by the Numbers

Spotify's audiobook service now operates in 22 markets with over 700,000 titles, up from 150,000 at launch. The company pays out hundreds of millions of dollars annually to authors and publishers, leveraging its base of 751 million monthly active users to funnel new listeners into the book market.
