Trout Takes Over the Bronx

Mike Trout capped one of the most dominant individual series performances in Yankee Stadium history on Thursday, hitting his fifth home run of the series as the Los Angeles Angels routed the New York Yankees 11-4.

Trout crushed a changeup from Angels debutant Angel Chivilli an estimated 446 feet into the left-field bleachers in the seventh inning. The blast made him the first player to homer five times in a single series against the Yankees since George Bell of the Blue Jays in 1990 — a feat never previously accomplished at Yankee Stadium.

Why It Matters

This was more than a statistical milestone. Trout's performance signals a full return to MVP-level form after injury concerns in recent seasons. Playing near his New Jersey hometown with family in attendance, Trout looked every bit the generational talent he was always projected to be.

Yankees starter Max Fried struggled with command, and the bullpen was battered, allowing the Angels to pile on. Manager Aaron Boone acknowledged the core issue: "Story of the series — we just didn't keep the ball in the ballpark."

Judge and Stanton Homer, But It's Not Enough

Aaron Judge launched his eighth homer of the season in the first inning, his fourth in as many games, tying him for the MLB lead. Giancarlo Stanton followed with a two-run shot in the third, briefly giving New York the lead.

The duo's combined home run total as teammates now stands at 61 (including postseason), putting them on pace to surpass the legendary tandems of Eddie Mathews-Hank Aaron (76) and Babe Ruth-Lou Gehrig (75) this season. But on this day, their efforts were overshadowed by Trout's brilliance.

Former Prospect Peraza Haunts Old Club

Oswald Peraza, once a top Yankees prospect, tormented his former team with a 5-for-10 series (.500), including two homers and four RBIs. "He looked like what we were excited about several years ago," Boone said. "He absolutely hurt us."

In the eighth, with the Yankees intentionally walking Trout to load the bases, Jo Adell responded with a grand slam to right field, sealing the rout.
