UAB Bookstore to Operate Mobile Pop-Up Stores Across Campus in December
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has released a comprehensive Blazer gift guide for the holiday season, featuring official merchandise, sports season tickets, and arts education programs. The initiative strengthens the university's connection with the local community through diverse gift categories.
The UAB Bookstore will run online discount promotions throughout December while operating pop-up stores at three campus locations. Pop-ups will be held at West Pavilion on December 4, UAB St. Vincent's Hospital on December 16, and Kirklin Clinic on December 22, open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., selling school-branded apparel, tumblers, and decorative items.
Notably, UAB offers long-term benefits for alumni children through the "Growing Up Green and Gold" program. For a one-time registration fee of $25, participants receive special gifts at major developmental milestones from birth to age 16, with enrollment available for up to four children. Sponsored by Legacy Credit Union, the program represents UAB's long-term strategy for cultivating the next generation of Blazer fans.
Sports Season Passes and Gold Card Enhance Fan Accessibility
UAB Athletics is selling men's and women's basketball season tickets alongside its "Gold Card" program. Starting at $65, the Gold Card provides an all-access pass to home games across six sports: women's soccer, men's soccer, volleyball, women's basketball, softball, and baseball. A four-card package costs $200, offering an economical option for families.
The "Blazer Buddies" kids club for children 12 and under provides access to the same sports with a $35 membership. UAB maintains ticket inquiry channels via email at tickets@uab.edu and phone at 205-975-UAB1.
Arts Education and Family Events Expand Community Engagement
UAB's Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center sells performance ticket gift certificates and annual memberships, while the ArtPlay Community Education Program offers art and theater classes and summer camp vouchers for children and youth. Arts membership purchasers receive priority access to information about future programs.
The "Blazer Claus" event on December 6 from 10 a.m. to noon at the UAB Alumni House costs $35 per family (up to five people) and includes photo opportunities with school mascot Blaze, Santa visits, craft activities, and a hot chocolate bar. Growing Up Green and Gold members receive VIP early entry.
The UAB Campus Recreation Center operates winter camps for ages 5-12 on December 22-23 and 29-30, featuring adventure sports, aquatic activities, and craft programs. Registration closes one week before each camp begins.
Community Outreach Programs Run Concurrently
UAB provides gifts and support to enrolled student families with children through its annual "Little Blazer Wishes" donation campaign. Additionally, proceeds from customized Blaze ornament sales are donated entirely to the School of Health Professions student scholarship fund, with orders due by December 10.
Through this holiday guide, UAB is strengthening its position as a regional cultural hub beyond its role as an educational institution. The multi-layered program structure spanning sports, arts, and education demonstrates how American universities' community engagement strategies are evolving from simple merchandise sales toward long-term relationship building.
