Egyptian actress Dunya Samir Ghanem shared her thoughts after being nominated for Best Actress at the Joy Awards 2026, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She received the nomination for her role in the film 'Rocky Al-Ghalaba,' competing alongside Aya Samaha, Shujoon Al-Hajiri, and Hana Al-Zahid in the same category.

"I thank everyone who voted for me. I hope to always live up to your expectations," Dunya told Sayidaty media during a purple carpet interview at the ceremony. She expressed affection for her fellow nominees, maintaining a humble demeanor throughout.

A Special Day Coinciding with Parents' Birthdays

The day held particular significance for Dunya. The day before the ceremony was the birthday of her late father, Samir Ghanem (a renowned comedy actor), and the ceremony day itself was the birthday of her late mother, Dalal Abdulaziz (an acclaimed actress). Dunya shared, "Yesterday, I had a performance of the play 'Anastouna' on my father's birthday, and today I stand here on my mother's birthday. I feel like my parents are here beside me, cheering me on."

Dunya's parents were both iconic figures in Egyptian entertainment, and even after their passing, they continue to profoundly influence their daughter's career. She described this nomination not merely as an achievement but as "a sign that my parents are with me."

Dunya also expressed deep appreciation for Saudi audiences. "Whether it's theater, film, or any event I attend, Saudi audiences always show tremendous love. I'm grateful for the warm welcome." She recalled how her activities in Riyadh have consistently received positive responses.

Success of Box Office Hit 'Rocky Al-Ghalaba'

The film 'Rocky Al-Ghalaba' premiered during the summer 2025 season and achieved box office revenues exceeding 60 million Egyptian pounds. The movie depicts a rural woman who enters the boxing world while serving as a bodyguard for a doctor. The protagonist navigates an unfamiliar world, encountering various conflicts and comedic situations.

The cast includes Mohamed Mamdouh, Mohamed Sarwat, Bayoumi Fouad, and Mohamed Radwan alongside Dunya, with Ahmed Al-Gendy directing and Karim Youssef writing the screenplay. The production was led by Ahmed Al-Sabky.
