Summary
  • Italy's Marche region attracted €69.8 million in investment through 159 applications to its economic zone program over a two-week period.
  • Tax credits alone reached €18.6 million, with a focus on streamlining administrative procedures to reduce barriers to business activity.
  • The governor described this as a key strategy for maintaining regional manufacturing competitiveness in a complex geopolitical environment.

Italy's Marche Region Drives Investment Boom Through Economic Zone

Italy's central Marche region has successfully attracted significant investment in a short period through its Special Economic Zone (ZES) program. From November 20 to December 2 last year, a total of 159 applications were received, bringing in €69.8 million (approximately $75 million) in investment. Tax credits alone amounted to €18.6 million (approximately $20 million).

Giacomo Bugaro, evaluation committee member for the regional economic zone, announced these results at a business and regional briefing held in Tolentino. The event was attended by Marche Governor Francesco Acquaroli and Undersecretary of Finance Lucia Albano, who emphasized the importance of the economic zone policy.

Economic Zone Reduces Barriers to Business Activity

The core objectives of the Marche economic zone are attracting new investment, strengthening competitiveness, and streamlining procedures for starting economic activities. The focus is particularly on simplifying administrative procedures to enable businesses to start operations more quickly and easily.

Governor Acquaroli explained, "The economic zone is part of a national strategy strongly promoted by the Meloni government for Italy," adding that it is "a decisive tool for enabling Marche businesses to maintain and develop their competitiveness in a complex and unpredictable geopolitical situation."

He added, "It is essential that the excellence of our manufacturing continues to produce in this region and export to global markets."

Regional Economic Revitalization and Job Creation Expected

Marche is a manufacturing-centered region located in central Italy, with competitiveness in various industrial sectors including furniture, footwear, and machinery. The economic zone designation is expected to expand investment and create jobs in these industries.

The event was attended by key politicians including Reconstruction Commissioner Guido Castelli, Chamber Deputy Elena Leonardi, and European Parliament Member Carlo Ciccioli. Regional councilors Renzo Marinelli, Pierpaolo Boroni, Mirella Battistoni, and Milena Sebastiani also participated.

The Marche regional government assessed that "this event provided an important opportunity for government agencies, businesses, and economic operators to discuss and deepen understanding of the opportunities arising from entry into the economic zone, activated measures, and prospects for the regional production base."
