San Juan Sports Complex Undergoes Complete Reconstruction

Mayor Omar Muñoz of Cuautlancingo, Puebla, Mexico, has announced the start of reconstruction work on the San Juan Sports Complex (Complejo Deportivo San Juan) with an investment of 12 million pesos (approximately 850 million won).

At the site on July 30, Mayor Muñoz emphasized that "investing in sports means investing in the holistic development of children and youth, as well as strengthening community cohesion." He added that "sports are a tool for change and innovation" and "help rescue our children from the violence that has plagued our community for so long."

New Baseball Field, Soccer Field, and Padel Courts

The reconstruction project includes the construction of baseball fields, soccer fields, and basketball courts, as well as new padel courts, a sport that has recently gained popularity in Latin America.

Mayor Muñoz stated, "The state of neglect of the complex is clear to everyone," adding, "Together with the efforts of residents in each area, we will create dignified spaces for young people one by one." He promised that "Cuautlancingo is a seedbed of hope and change" and "we will maximize the sports capabilities of our youth."

Municipal Sports League Launch and International Tournament Hosting

Along with this announcement, the city has officially launched its municipal sports league. Soccer and volleyball leagues will begin on August 17, basketball on August 6, and baseball on the first weekend of October. Registration runs from July 28 to August 15, with baseball registration extending until October 2.

Mayor Muñoz announced, "We will open the San Juan complex to national and international leagues and develop strategies to host tournaments of various sizes." In fact, the facility has already been selected to host the Copa Telmex Puebla state finals.

Partnership with Puebla Arcángeles

The city also plans to sign an agreement with the American football team Arcángeles de Puebla. Mayor Muñoz said, "This sport should lead change in Cuautlancingo and other areas," adding, "We will work with the state government to support the necessary agreements."

Participants in the baseball league will have the opportunity to join the youth team of Puebla's professional team, the Pericos, with the possibility of advancing to the first team if their abilities are recognized.

Alexia Espidio Sánchez, Deputy Secretary of the Puebla State Youth Department, praised Mayor Muñoz, stating that "he has shown through communication with young people that efficient, transparent, and humane local government is possible."

Antonio Iriarte, the city's sports advisor, said, "As a young mayor, he understands that sports can transform lives," adding, "this will become a host site for major national and international leagues."
