33 Medalists Spanning the Entire Art Ecosystem

Art Basel has unveiled 33 medalists for the second edition of the Art Basel Awards, its annual honours programme recognising artists, curators, collectors, institutions and other art-world figures. The recipients will be honoured at a ceremony during Art Basel's flagship fair in Basel, Switzerland, in June.

Vincenzo de Bellis, Art Basel's global director of fairs and jury chair, said in a statement: "This year's cohort spans geographies, disciplines and generations, reflecting a truly interconnected art world."

From Emerging Voices to Icons

The emerging artists category includes Farah Al Qasimi, Carla Gueye, Diego Marcon, Aziza Kadyri, Precious Okoyomon and Tiffany Sia, whose practices address identity, migration, ecology and systems of power.

The established artists category features María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Arthur Jafa, Theaster Gates, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Julie Mehretu. The icon category — honouring those who have fundamentally shaped the art world — recognises Barbara Kruger, Howardena Pindell and Jenny Holzer.

Cross-Disciplinary Recognition

A new cross-disciplinary category honours artist and musician Laurie Anderson alongside architects Sumayya Vally and Kulapat Yantrasast, reflecting the growing convergence between contemporary art and other cultural fields.

Curators Azu Nwagbogu, Stuart Comer and Diana Campbell are recognised in their own category, while patrons Pamela J. Joyner, Mercedes Vilardell and the Teiger Foundation are also among the medalists.

Institutions honoured include Savvy Contemporary in Berlin, the Diriyah Biennale Foundation in Saudi Arabia and The Brick in Los Angeles. The media category recognises critic Hilton Als, journalist Siddhartha Mitter and e-flux founder Anton Vidokle.

Awards Structure and Prize Support

All 33 medalists will be honoured at a ceremony during Art Basel Basel (15–21 June). Medalists will then select a smaller group to receive gold medals, to be announced at Art Basel Miami Beach in December. Gold medal recipients will receive more than $250,000 in flexible support, including honorariums, philanthropic contributions and public commissions.

복잡한 사안입니다. 아트바젤어워즈 논란의 핵심이 뭔지 정리가 필요합니다. 간과되는 부분이 있다고 생각합니다.
