A New Medical Training Hub Opens in Évreux

A new paramedical training facility has opened in Évreux, Normandy, France. Designed by VIB Architecture for the Seine-Eure Hospital Center and Évreux Porte de Normandie, the Institut de Formation Paramédicale de l'Eure (IFPE) represents an €18.5 million investment in regional healthcare education infrastructure.

Why This Building Matters

Paramedical training facilities are far more than classrooms. They are spaces where future healthcare workers undergo intensive study, hands-on practice, and daily exposure to human care. VIB Architecture approached this challenge by envisioning a building described as 'a school attentive to living systems.'

The design integrates state-of-the-art educational and technological facilities while remaining sensitive to student well-being, the surrounding landscape, and contemporary environmental imperatives. Notably, the project employs a timber frame structure—a choice that aligns with modern public architecture's push toward carbon reduction and creates warm, human-scale interiors.

Infrastructure Expansion in Post-Pandemic Europe

Since the COVID-19 pandemic exposed critical healthcare workforce shortages across Europe, France and its neighbors have accelerated investment in medical education infrastructure. The Évreux IFPE fits squarely within this national policy trajectory, reinforcing regional capacity to train healthcare professionals. Its design philosophy—user-centered, environmentally conscious, and contextually integrated—positions it as a reference model for similar facilities.
