IBM Unveils Granite 4.0 3B Vision, a Compact VLM Targeting Enterprise Document Understanding

IBM has released Granite 4.0 3B Vision, a lightweight vision-language model (VLM) purpose-built for enterprise document processing. Announced via the Hugging Face Blog, the model centers on three core capabilities: table structure extraction, chart interpretation, and semantic key-value pair (KVP) extraction. It is packaged as a LoRA adapter on top of Granite 4.0 Micro, IBM's dense language model.

Why This Matters

Automating information extraction from enterprise documents — invoices, contracts, reports, and financial forms — has long been a stubborn challenge. Conventional optical character recognition (OCR) solutions struggle with complex layouts or visually encoded data like charts and graphs.

Granite 4.0 3B Vision targets this gap directly.
