Trout Opens Game With Solo Blast, Ignites Homer Parade

Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout (34) hit a leadoff solo homer in the first inning at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, setting off a back-to-back-to-back home run sequence that powered the Angels to a 7-1 blowout win.

Trout crushed a 2-1 fastball from lefty Ryan Weathers at 110.1 mph, sending it a projected 432 feet to center field. It was the third consecutive at-bat with a homer for Trout after going deep twice on Monday night. Jo Adell and Jorge Soler each followed with solo shots, completing the three-homer barrage in just four pitches.

Historic Milestones

Trout has now been involved in back-to-back-to-back homer sequences six times in his career, tying Hank Aaron, Adrian Beltre, J.D. Drew, and Frank Thomas for the most such instances since 1900. The blast was also career homer No. 409, tying Mark Teixeira for 57th on the all-time list.

Trout has been surging after reintroducing a slight step-back motion before his swing. His OPS has climbed from .693 to .896 in recent days. Lefty Reid Detmers backed the offense with 7-plus innings of nine-strikeout, zero-walk ball.
