William's voice changed

As Season 4 Episode 4 of Amazon Prime Video's popular animation 'Invincible' was released, controversy arose surrounding the character of William, the main character Mark's best friend. Andrew Rannells, who played William from seasons 1 to 3, was replaced, and Brandon Scott Jones took over the voice acting role.

As soon as the episode was released, fans responded immediately. One viewer wrote on Reddit: "I was so confused the moment he spoke. Why did he suddenly have such a typical voice?" Another fan complained, “The voice was so strange that I had no choice but to stop the episode and search.”

Background of voice actor replacement

Although the official reason for the replacement has not been announced, the most likely cause is known to be scheduling issues. Robert Kirkman, the original author of Invincible, revealed that season 4 began production immediately after season 3. The decision was made to maintain production speed.

Andrew Rannells is currently working on various projects. He appeared in the Netflix series 'Too Much' and 'Another Simple Favor', and also returned to play Matthew in the final season of 'Big Mouth'. He has also been cast in the comedy series 'Stay Tuned', which is being produced by Hulu.

Get off at Powerplex Station Aaron Paul

William is not the only voice actor whose voice actor has changed. Aaron Paul, famous for 'Breaking Bad', also got off at Powerplex Station. “It was very difficult mentally,” Paul said in a podcast interview last November.

He explained, "Powerplex is no joke. The pain and turmoil that the character goes through... I didn't feel comfortable going into it. Everyone involved in the work is great, but I hated the impact this role had on me. I couldn't continue."

However, in an interview with a related media outlet, Kirkman suggested that scheduling issues were the main cause. “Unlike live-action dramas, in animation, there is less need to expand roles or revise the script to retain actors,” he said. “There are times when it is difficult for actors to fit into their schedules for just one or two scenes.”

Season 4 story development

Aside from the voice actor controversy, Invincible Season 4 is developing a full-fledged story. Mark still struggles with moral dilemmas, and has become much more assertive in the way he deals with threats since his fight with Conquest.

Meanwhile, Nolan (J.K. Simmons) reluctantly agrees to cooperate to save the universe from his own species, the Viltrumites. He meets Tidus (Peter Cullen) and learns that the 'Scurge Virus' that almost wiped out the Viltrumite race still remains.

At the end of the premiere episode, the shocking truth was revealed that the reason Eve's abilities were malfunctioning was because of pregnancy. In Season 4 Episode 4, William returns and comforts Eve, but fans' attention is focused elsewhere due to his changed voice.
