From abandoned land to citizens’ playground

‘Xiaojiahe Green Dynamic World’, located in Haidian District, Beijing, is attracting attention as a new model for urban regeneration. This project, undertaken by Chinese architectural design firm DDON, realizes the revitalization of unused urban land from a social governance perspective, and is a unique example of a popular and topic-oriented approach among urban regeneration projects in Beijing.

New direction in public space design

Xiaojiahe Green Dynamic World is designed as a complex open space that combines sports and green space. As the name 'Green Dynamic' suggests, this project pursues both eco-friendly elements and a dynamic activity space.

In particular, this project is significant in that it was designed to solve the problem of idle land that arose during Beijing's rapid urbanization, while improving the quality of citizens' daily lives rather than simply building buildings. This project clearly demonstrates the recent change in the urban regeneration paradigm that has been occurring in major cities in China. Haidian District is a representative tech hub and education center in Beijing, and the need for leisure space for citizens has been continuously raised in a high-density urban environment. This project is also a specific response to such community needs.
