Why mayors are trapped in escape rooms
A unique donation event was held in Dakota County, Minnesota, USA. Local mayors voluntarily participate in an escape room game and are 'trapped' for several hours while citizens watch and collect donations.
Mayors from West St. Paul, South St. Paul, Invergrove Heights, and Mendota Heights participated in the 'Free Mayors, Feed Neighbors' event held at the 'Nowhere Entertainment Amusement Park' in Invergrove Heights on March 28. Citizens were able to watch the mayors' escape attempts in real time through a large screen installed in the lobby.
Goal of $200,000 for 480,000 meals
Cody Semo, CEO of Neighbors Inc., a local food bank that hosted this event, explained, "We are aiming to raise $200,000 through the Minnesota March Food Sharing Campaign. With this amount, we can provide about 480,000 meals, benefiting almost all residents of Dakota County."
The background to this event is the growing problem of food insecurity in the region. Dakota County Commissioner Joe Atkins said, "Dakota County is in relatively good shape economically, but right now, one in five households is struggling," and spoke about the food crisis in the community.
Successfully raised thousands of dollars
Neighbors Ink said that “thousands of dollars” in donations were collected through this event. This brings the food bank one step closer to reaching its goal of $200,000. A unique fundraising event in which local public officials directly participated succeeded in attracting interest and participation from residents.
