Conquer 28 Michelin restaurants in 24 hours
Joshua Fyksen, a sommelier in Las Vegas, USA, broke the Guinness World Record for visiting the most Michelin-starred restaurants in 24 hours. He visited 28 restaurants in New York and spent about 1.3 million won ($976.97) on food alone.
Fixson first set this record in 2023 by visiting 22 places, but in 2024, Sujoy Kumar Mitra and Rajneesh Kumar Tripathi from India took the record away from Hong Kong by visiting 25 places. Accordingly, Fixon headed to New York again to reclaim the record.
Success created by meticulous planning
Fixson carefully planned the route, taking into account menu options, time constraints, and reservation availability. He explained the planning process, saying, "Eleven Madison Park only offers a tasting menu that lasts several hours, but you can eat simple dishes at a small bar."
“I emailed several restaurants that don’t have an a la carte menu and asked for an exception. Some said yes, a few even opened early, but most stuck with their old ways,” he added.
His challenge started at Oxomoco in Brooklyn and ended at Gramercy Tavern in Manhattan.
Total cost approximately 2 million won
According to Guinness World Records, Fixon paid $976.97 for his food plus a tip, and spent an additional $474.37 (about 630,000 won) on travel costs between restaurants. He laughed and said, “I don’t want to imagine the total cost, including travel expenses.”
The food was highly praised. “I was particularly impressed by Le Pavillon's Jonah crab salad with apple and wasabi, Touome's scallop dumplings with peas and foie gras, and Tori's tortellini pomodoro. Honestly, there wasn't a single dish I didn't like this time,” he said.
