A new cultural hub is born in Rome’s Pineto

Frissón, a complex cultural space where music, gastronomy, and art come together, opened in the Pigneto district of Rome, Italy. This 220㎡ space was designed by the architectural office On Form Studio and was implemented as a hybrid space that integrates the functions of a listening bar, bakery, and cultural platform into one.

Onform Studio is a design team consisting of Michele Marincola, Ivan Spadaccini, Giovanni Inglese, and Andrea Signorotto. Through this project, they explored how architecture and interior design can support a modern cultural ecosystem.

Space philosophy for music and community

The biggest feature of Frison is its spatial composition centered on the concept of 'listening bar'. A listening bar is a culture that originated in Japan and refers to a bar equipped with a high-quality audio system for the sole purpose of listening to music. This space goes beyond simple beverage sales and functions as a place for social and cultural exchange through music.

With the addition of a bakery, Frison has become a flexible space that can welcome visitors at various times from morning to night. During the day, it becomes a neighborhood cafe where you can enjoy freshly baked bread and coffee, and in the evening, it transforms into a cultural salon with music.

Pineto, Rome's new cultural center

The Pineto district, where Frison is located, is a neighborhood with a different character from Rome's traditional tourist destinations. This formerly working-class area has recently emerged as an alternative cultural center for Rome, attracting young artists and creators. The arrival of Frison in a place lined with independent galleries, vintage shops, and craft beer pubs is expected to further enrich the local cultural ecosystem.

Onform Studio said of this project, "We explored how architecture can support a modern ecosystem centered on music, exchange, and artistic production, beyond simply creating physical space."
