  • Kenny Omega requests that his motion-captured Alex participate in Smash
  • Omega analyzed that Alex is suitable as a character specializing in command grabs
  • Rumors are swirling that a new Smash Bros. is in development for Switch 2.

Fighting game character created by a professional wrestler

AEW professional wrestler Kenny Omega officially requested that Alex, a character from 'Street Fighter 6', be added to Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. fighting game series.

Omega was directly responsible for the motion capture of Alex's character in Street Fighter 6, and is known to have incorporated some of his actual professional wrestling skills into the character. In an exclusive interview with Associated Press, he said, "Alex could be a fun character," and "his skill set would be a good fit for Smash."

Possibility of a character specializing in command grabs

Omega mentioned characters with strong grab skills, such as Koopa, who already appear in Smash Bros., and analyzed that Alex could become a "typical command grab character."

“I understand those who dislike the command grab character. You may think it is no longer needed, but I am a wrestler. I wish there were more wrestling techniques and grab moves,” he added.

Professional wrestling techniques already exist in the Smash Bros. series. Dark Foxmon and Minmin have a German Suplex back grab, and R.O.B. has a pile driver type grab.

Omega was especially looking forward to the scenes he would see if Alex participated in Smash. It shows him using the 'One Winged Angel' technique against Sephiroth, and this technique appears in Street Fighter 6 under the name 'Omega Wing Buster'.

Message to Director Sakurai

Omega delivered a message directly to Smash Bros. founder Masahiro Sakurai.

"Hello, Honorable One. Look at the positive response my favorite fighting game character, Alex, has received. You can get that response too. Just put him in Smash."

Currently, no new Smash Bros. title has been officially announced, but there are rumors that a version for Switch 2 is in development. There is also speculation that Director Sakurai will return from retirement to participate in production. It is still unclear whether this game is a deluxe version of 'Smash Ultimate' or a completely new work.
