Beth Galetti, Amazon's Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology, explained the background of the restructuring in an internal memo, calling "this generation of AI the most transformative," but ultimately chose workforce reduction.
In contrast, Microsoft selected 'efficient expansion' during the AI transition. The strategy is to strengthen AI infrastructure while reducing headcount, then increase workforce again based on that productivity foundation.
