The masterpiece of real-time strategy game returns after 7 years

Games Workshop's 'Warhammer 40,000' franchise enters a new era. Publisher Deep Silver and developer KING Art Games announced that Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 will be released in 2026.

The 3rd installment released in 2017 received less-than-expected reviews and the series seemed to be ending, but it has been revived with a new developer after 7 years. The new game promises to return to the classic real-time strategy (RTS) gameplay of the 2004 blockbuster.

Return to Planet Cronus

'Don of War 4' is set on the planet Cronus, which was the setting of the expansion pack 'Dark Crusade', which left a deep impression on series fans. Four factions - Space Marines, Necrons, Orks, and Adeptus Mechanicus - compete for supremacy on the devastated battlefield.

Developer King Art Games has proven its capabilities in the genre with the alternative history RTS 'Iron Harvest', released in 2020. According to related industry reports, the joining of a new developer is seen as the result of Games Workshop seeking a new direction for the series after the poor performance of the third game.

Inheriting the key elements of the masterpiece

According to released marketing materials, 'Dawn of War 4' promotes "classic Dawn of War gameplay" and re-implements the squad system and base building mechanisms established by the masterpiece. Unlike Parts 2 and 3, which attempted to change in different directions, this work chose a strategy of returning to the origins of the series.

The game will offer a story campaign divided into each faction, and the trailers released so far include both CGI footage and in-game play scenes. Since the first announcement on August 19, 2025, information disclosure has continued.

Platforms and release schedule

The only confirmed release platform so far is PC (Steam). Even though King Art Games has console development experience, like its predecessors, it is being developed exclusively for PC. This decision is aimed at the hardcore RTS fan base, and the gameplay and interface will be optimized for the PC environment.

The exact release date has not yet been revealed, but development is underway with the goal of release in 2026. According to multiple foreign media, the active marketing campaign currently underway suggests that it is highly likely that the product will be released this year as scheduled.
