Summary
  • Twitch has completely revamped its security regulations to prevent recurrence of incidents of streamer assault and inappropriate contact.
  • Key contents include the introduction of lanyards to refuse filming, conversion to a fan meeting reservation system, and increased security personnel.
  • The new policy will be applied starting from TwitchCon Rotterdam, and streamer participation rates are expected to recover.

Streamer safety threats occur in succession

Twitch announced that it will significantly strengthen the security regulations for TwitchCon, its flagship offline event. This measure follows repeated incidents of inappropriate contact and assault targeting streamers at events in recent years.

According to related reports, at TwitchCon 2025, an incident occurred in which popular streamer Emiru was physically touched by a fan without consent. In 2024, Nmplol was subjected to inappropriate contact by a streamer on another platform during a live broadcast, and in 2022, Caitlyn Siragusa's security team, known as Amouranth, had to respond to the emergence of multiple stalkers.

Twitch applies new rules starting from Rotterdam event

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said that he was conducting a comprehensive analysis of the entire event following the Emiru incident. “We are reviewing everything from registration methods to venue layout to strengthening security controls,” he explained.

The key contents of the new policy released on March 25 are as follows.

Introduction of a system to indicate refusal to film

Participants will be able to wear a dedicated lanyard (necklace type name tag) to indicate that they do not want to be filmed. Broadcasters streaming live should not approach or attempt to interview anyone wearing this lanyard or anyone who refuses to be filmed. Violation of this may result in temporary suspension of broadcasting, expulsion, or additional sanctions during the event period.

Switch to fan meeting reservation system

Previously, fans could freely stand in line and meet streamers, but from now on, they will have to make a reservation in advance to participate in fan meetings. Twitch also plans to improve the physical layout of the fan meeting area to strengthen separation between queues and creators, and to clarify personnel management and entry and exit routes.

Strengthening security personnel and response systems

Increase the number of trained security personnel at the event venue and improve the situation reporting system to respond quickly to incidents.

Will the phenomenon of streamers avoiding participation be resolved?

There is growing interest in whether this measure will encourage creators to participate in the event. Popular streamer QT Cinderella and others have expressed that they are "afraid" to participate in TwitchCon in 2025 due to security concerns. Whether this policy, which will be applied at TwitchCon Rotterdam, can actually create a safe environment is expected to be evaluated after the event.
