Home Opener Hero

Chase DeLauter delivered a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning Friday, going 3-for-4 as the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-1 in their home opener at Progressive Field.

Historic Start

The blast gave DeLauter five home runs in his first seven regular-season games — tied for second-most in MLB history since 1900, alongside Rece Hinds (2024) and Mark Quinn (1999). Only Trevor Story (seven in 2016) hit more to open a career.

The Decisive Swing

With the game tied 1-1, DeLauter turned on a 96.6 mph fastball from Hunter Harvey, sending it 402 feet at 109 mph off the bat. He paused five steps out of the box to watch it fly.

"When they come off like that, sometimes you just know," DeLauter said.

Manager Stephen Vogt called it "incredible," adding the 24-year-old is "not big-eyed" despite the high-pressure stage.
