DJI Avata 360 drone review
Summary
  • DJI Avata 360 combines cinewhoop FPV design with dual 64MP sensors for 8K 360-degree video.
  • Its shoot-and-reframe workflow lets creators choose their angle in post-production.
  • Compatibility with FPV goggles and standard controllers makes it highly versatile.

DJI Strikes Back in the 360-Degree Drone Market

DJI, the undisputed leader in consumer drones, has made its decisive move in the emerging 360-degree drone category. Although the Antigravity A1 beat DJI to market, the DJI Avata 360 represents a full-force response from the industry giant. Visually similar to the DJI Neo 2, the Avata 360 offers a significantly upgraded spec sheet.

Cinewhoop Design Meets 360-Degree Camera

The Avata 360's defining feature is its cinewhoop FPV form factor combined with a 360-degree camera system. Measuring 246×199×55.5mm and weighing 455g — well above the 250g regulatory threshold — this drone trades portability for durability and performance. Build quality is excellent, as expected from DJI.

A clever rotating camera mount automatically tilts the lenses upward during takeoff and landing, protecting them from ground contact. This is a more elegant solution than the mechanical legs used by the Antigravity A1, and lens guards are replaceable if damaged.

8K 60FPS: 360-Degree Video Reimagined

The camera features two 64MP 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensors capable of shooting 8K 60FPS footage. Image quality for 360-degree capture is among the best available, though it falls short of dedicated camera drones — a limitation common to all 360-degree systems.

The real appeal lies in the shoot-now, reframe-later workflow. Pilots can capture everything in 360 degrees and select the ideal angle during post-production. A single-lens mode also enables DJI's powerful subject tracking.

Dual Flying Modes for Maximum Versatility

The Avata 360 is compatible with a wide range of DJI controllers, including the RC 2, RC-N2, and RC-N3. Adding the DJI Motion Controller 3 and Goggles N3 unlocks full FPV flight — enabling dynamic footage through buildings, forests, and tight spaces.

Why 360-Degree Drones Matter Now

The growing demand for immersive content on platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Meta makes 360-degree drones increasingly relevant. The Avata 360 supports this with subject tracking, collision avoidance, and 42GB of internal storage. Currently awaiting stock at major retailers, the Avata 360 is poised to become a flagship product in immersive aerial photography.
