Ukrainian architectural office MAVA Design has completed ‘The Extension Atelier’, a beauty salon specializing in hair extensions, within the residential complex ‘Unit Home’. According to related architectural media reports, the key task of this project was to start from an empty shell and implement logical movement lines and clear spatial separation.

Challenge created by pillars, solution found by design

설계팀이 마주한 가장 큰 난제는 공간 중앙에 밀집한 다수의 기둥이었다. Structural columns are generally considered limiting elements in interior design, but MAVA Design utilized them as natural boundaries to segment space. By separating the public space (open zone) and the private space for procedures (private zone) between the pillars, we ensured customer privacy while maintaining a sense of openness without being stuffy.

뷰티살롱 공간 디자인의 진화

Recently, in the beauty industry, there has been a growing trend to design the entire customer experience beyond simply the place where treatment is performed. Especially in the case of services that require a long treatment time, such as hair extensions, it has become important to create an environment where customers can stay comfortably. This project by MAVA Design is evaluated as an example of creatively overcoming structural constraints and satisfying functionality and aesthetics at the same time.
