A Story of Greed and Betrayal Begins

Actor Kim Sung Cheol is set to captivate audiences in a brand-new role in Disney+'s upcoming original drama Gold Land, premiering April 29. He plays Woo Gi, an employee at the loan company Yes Money, who stays close to the protagonist while always remaining on the verge of betrayal.

Woo Gi — Between Warmth and Danger

Woo Gi is the first to discover that Hee Joo (Park Bo Young), an airport security screening officer, is hiding gold bars. Though he outwardly cooperates with her and builds a near-familial rapport, he harbors an opportunistic core — ever ready to turn on her if the moment is right. This duality is expected to be a central engine of the series' tension.

Kim Sung Cheol described his approach: "I tried not to reveal too much of his inner thoughts to preserve the dramatic mystery. I wanted his gaze, words, and actions toward Hee Joo to always feel unpredictable — like someone carefree but capable of landing a real punch."

The Director's Vision

Director Kim Seong Hoon explained his casting choice: "Woo Gi is a character who shapes his own desires between the chance of gold and the presence of Hee Joo. Kim Sung Cheol's mix of handsomeness and ruggedness suited him perfectly — bright on the surface, with a current of danger underneath."

The director also praised the actor's preparation: "He studies characters deeply and arrives with a full range of expressions ready. That's how he brought Woo Gi's rogue charm to life."

What 'Gold Land' Is About

Gold Land follows Hee Joo, a security screener at an international airport who accidentally comes into possession of gold bars linked to an illegal smuggling ring. As greed and betrayal consume those around her, she finds herself battling not only others — but her own desire to keep the gold. The 10-episode series drops episodes 1 and 2 on April 29, releasing two new episodes weekly thereafter.
