  • The transferred Pokémon's stats and characteristics will be maintained, but some skills will be restricted
  • Changes made to Champions will remain the same after returning to the original game.

Pokemon Champions' new transfer system revealed

In 'Pokemon Champions', a new game being developed by The Pokemon Company, a new transfer system that allows you to use Pokemon from the main series has been revealed. However, unlike the existing series, it is operated by 'temporary transfer' rather than permanent movement.

According to related industry reports, producer Masaaki Hoshino explained in detail how the cross-game transmission system works in a roundtable interview.

How the temporary transfer system works specifically

According to producer Hoshino, sending Pokemon to Pokemon Champions is not the traditional 'movement' function provided in existing main RPG games. Instead, it operates as a temporary transfer through Pokemon Home.

He explained, "You can import Pokemon from the main series games. This is more of a temporary transfer to Pokemon Champions rather than an actual transfer."

Transferred Pokémon retain their existing stats, characteristics, and skills. However, producer Hoshino noted that some techniques that exist in other games may not be present in Champions. “For example, there may be skills that exist in other games but are not in Pokémon Champions. Those skills will not be applied,” he added.

You can keep your changes and return to the original game

What's noteworthy is that you can modify your Pokémon within Champions, and these changes will persist even after sending the Pokémon back. Producer Hoshino confirmed, "If you send it from home to the Champions, make changes, send it back, and bring it back later, all those changes will remain."

It was also revealed that any Pokémon sent to Champions can be returned to the original game through Pokémon Home.

Goal of expanding competitive play accessibility

One of the core goals of Pokémon Champions is to make competitive play more accessible. To this end, players can rent various Pokémon using in-game currency. At the same time, it appears that a temporary transfer system has been introduced so that existing fans with teams that they have cultivated over a long period of time can also participate in the competition with their own Pokemon.
